What Network Solutions Does to Combat Online Child Exploitation
As a leading provider of Web based solutions and pioneer of domain name registration services, Network Solutions takes seriously its commitment to Internet security for all customers, including children and teenagers. As the complexity and scale of Internet operations grows, so does the level of sophistication of potential security threats faced by all users, including our youngest customers. The Pew Internet & American Life Project estimates that among teenagers between 12 and 17 in the United States, 21 million use the Internet, with half logging on daily. We are engaged in the following activities to make sure that online interactions remain a safe and secure experience for both parents and children:
Online Safety and Security
Network Solutions strives to ensure a secure online experience for all customers, ranging from individuals concerned about protecting their children from cyberpredators to business customers who rely on us to conduct business online.
- Network Solutions offers important tools to help protect customers from viruses, spyware and spam, such as virus protection, spam filtering and anti-phishing and anti- hacking software. We also offer digital certificates to ensure that credit card and personal information passed between a web site and the customer’s browser remains private and secure, as well as a private registration service that helps protect our registrants’ personal information from getting into the hands of identity thieves, hackers, and other cyberpredators.
Cooperation with Law Enforcement
Law enforcement agencies remain a front line defense against the new security threats posed by online technology in the hands of child predators. To this end, Network Solutions cooperates with federal, state and local law enforcement authorities and has assisted in hundreds of investigations.
- To assist in preventing cyberpredatory practices against children, we participate in collaborative initiatives such as the Messaging Anti-Abuse Working Group (MAAWG), the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC), and the Anti-Phishing Working Group.
Acceptable Use Policy
Network Solutions curtails abusive behavior through a comprehensive—and rigorously enforced—Acceptable Use Policy that includes an agreement that users will comply with all applicable local, state, national and international laws and regulations.
- Network Solutions also coordinates with expert groups such as the MAAWG and the NCMEC to address abusive online behavior. We reserve the right to review content on any of our services when responding to a third party complaint and will suspend, restrict, terminate or take other appropriate steps against actions we determine have violated the terms of our Acceptable Use Policy.
