Time Warner Cable
Time Warner Cable is committed to giving parents more choices and control over their children’s online and media experiences. We approach kids’ online and media safety as areas in which we can—and must—engage parents. We provide parents and caregivers with a powerful range of tools to manage the content that comes into their homes.
Time Warner Cable believes that both the company and the family have important roles to play.
From the widest content choices to the best education on how to make smart decisions about their children’s interactions, we provide parents and caregivers with a powerful range of tools to manage the content that comes into their homes.
Time Warner Cable cannot substitute for parents in deciding what types of content their children consume. But we must and do offer Internet and television content that is attractive to children and families, and give families the resources and control they need to make informed decisions about that content.
Highlights:
- Kids Stuff Channel. Our high-speed online service, Road Runner, provides a dedicated channel with content developed specifically for children.
- Common Sense Media. Time Warner Cable has partnered with Common Sense Media, a non-partisan, not-for-profit organization, to provide trustworthy information and tools, as well as an independent forum, so that parents can make educated decisions as to what media their family should encounter. Specifically, Common Sense Media ratings provide additional information about websites and television programming based on developmental criteria recommendations that parents can easily access, adding another level of control over children’s experiences.
- Online Parental Controls. Time Warner Cable has partnered with Computer Associates to offer our customers PureSight Parental Control, which allows parents to set filters on websites by category or time period. Additionally, this software provides comprehensive reports on what sites were visited and at what time and whether it was an allowed or blocked site, helping parents further monitor their kids’ usage.
- TV Parental Controls. Parental controls enable users to block entire channels or specific programs based on ratings.
- TV Rating System. We employ Cable TV ratings, a uniform ratings system adopted by the cable industry in the mid-1990’s, provides customers with a quick take on a specific program’s content.
- Family-Friendly Programming Choices. Cable offers a wide range of TV programs for all kinds of audiences, including many channels that serve children and families 24/7. With its Family Choice Package, Time Warner Cable became the first cable operator to launch a package of family-friendly programming. These programming options provide good TV for children as well as programs for families to watch together.
